COSMETIC TATTOO PREP, AFTERCARE & contraindications

  • PREPARATION

    - Order your anaesthetic (see below)
    - Avoid all alcohol/caffeine for 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment as these substances can thin the blood which may lead to excessive bleeding.
-Please eat something beforehand to ensure your blood sugar levels are stable during the procedure.
    - Medications - please avoid blood thinning medications including fish oil supplements at least one week prior to your appointment - consult with your health practitioner first before doing so.
    - A few days before your scheduled appointment, exfoliate your brows with your usual facial exfoliant.
    - Wash hair the morning of your appointment.
    - Please avoid retinols, glycolic acid & vitamin C products on the area for up to a month prior your appointment.
    - No tinting or dyeing the brows for two to three weeks prior to your scheduled appointment.

    AFTERCARE

IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE TREATMENT AND UNTIL YOU GO TO BED

    - Dab your eyebrows with a slightly damp cotton round every 10 minutes during the initial hours after the treatment. Dab and hold the cotton round on the area for about 5 seconds, applying gentle pressure.
    - You’ll repeat this process every 30 minutes or so after the first two hours of dabbing every 10 minutes. This helps eliminate excess lymph, as leaving it can lead to heavier scabbing.
    - Before going to bed and after your final “dab”, you must apply a very thin layer of antiseptic bepanthen to the area. If you put it on too thick, you won’t let the area “breathe”.

    FOR THE FOLLOWING 7 DAYS

    - Clean the area morning and night, using distilled/filtered water with a cotton round using the same dabbing technique. Apply a VERY (breathable) layer of antiseptic bepanthen afterward. Repeat the same routine at night.
    - Avoid getting the area wet. Follow your normal skincare routine but avoid the brow area and the forehead if you can help it.
    - Do not have hot steamy showers/saunas, tanning beds or submerge in swimming pools/beach.
    - Stay out of direct sunlight. Wear sunglasses. Wear a hat where necessary.
    - Refrain from engaging in any physical exercise or activities that induce sweating for a period of 7-10 days. While it may seem that your face doesn't sweat much, the reality is that your entire body perspires, visible or not. Sweating can open up your pores, posing a risk of uneven colour healing.
    - Avoid applying makeup to your eyebrows for a period of 14 days or until flaking process is complete. While facial makeup is permissible, ensure it stays clear of your eyebrows.
    - Refrain from undergoing any facial treatments until your eyebrows have fully healed. It is advisable to wait for a period of 14 days to ensure proper healing.

    THE HEALING PROCESS

The eyebrows will initially present quite dark, resembling makeup, even if Tayla mixed a light colour blend. The colour will progressively intensify in the following days before entering a gentle peeling phase.

Typically around day 4-7, you may feel notably dry and tight, signalling the onset of peeling.

You may or may not notice the peeling taking place, It is crucial to allow the colour to naturally peel off; picking at it may lead to colour loss.

Around 5-10 days post-treatment, the peeling phase should be complete. Following this, the colour might initially seem dull as the top layer of the skin sheds, a natural aspect of the healing process. Allow 4-6 weeks for the colour to settle and stabilise within the skin. It is during this period that you'll see the true potential of how the eyebrows have healed. It is in the 8 week touch up session that we can add thickness, length or perhaps go darker.

Kindly note that in uncommon instances, certain clients may need a third touch-up appointment, depending on their skin type or if aftercare is not diligently followed.

    - Avoid all alcohol/caffeine for 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment.
    - Please eat something beforehand to ensure your blood sugar levels are stable during the procedure.
    - Medications - please avoid blood thinning medications including fish oil supplements at least one week prior to your appointment - consult with your health practitioner first before doing so to ensure safe to do so.

    - Gently exfoliate the area with a lip scrub a week prior and a few days prior and regularly apply a balm throughout the day to keep them from drying out/cracking.
    - Drink lots of water the week before your appointment to ensure the lips are hydrated for the best healed results.

    AFTERCARE

    - Expect some swelling immediately after your appointment. This is normal and will subside throughout a day or 2. If you are feeling numb, we advise not to use a cold compress until that sensation has gone. A cold compress can help with reducing the swelling.
    - It is normal to still feel numb in the area for up to 24 hours.
    - Refrain from consuming hot beverages; we suggest sipping through a straw or using a drink with a lid (such as a takeaway coffee cup).
    - It is suggested to adopt a “knife and fork” diet for the first 5 days to avoid stretching the lips and cracking them prematurely.
    - Try to avoid wetting the area for at least 4-5 days and be mindful of brushing your teeth.
    - Strictly no make up on the lips for 7 days, only antiseptic bepanthen.
    - With a water wipe/damp cotton round, gently pat the area before applying a thin layer of antiseptic bepanthen with a cotton tip. Do this continuously throughout the day. You want the area to stay moist even when the lips feel extremely dry.
    - Only use antiseptic bepanthen over the healing process.

    - Medications - please avoid blood thinning medications including fish oil supplements at least one week prior to your appointment - consult with your health practitioner first to ensure its safe to do so.
    - Please avoid waterproof mascaras and eye make up on the day of your scheduled appointment.
    - Please remove eyelash extensions 1-2 weeks beforehand.
    - Wash hair the morning of your appointment.
    - You will need to remove contact lenses before your appointment. Please bring your glasses with you for the trip home.
    - You MUST seize the use of lash growth serums for 6-12 weeks prior to booking an appointment.

    AFTERCARE

    - Do not wet the eye area for at least 7 days, this includes crying as well as sweating. Perspiration contains salt, and the salt has the potential to extract pigment from the skin.
    - There may be puffiness/swelling post procedure, this is normal and will subside within a day or two. The next morning I find you may be at your puffiest. A cold compress can help with reducing the swelling.
    - It’s also important to note that the eyeliner will appear thicker immediately after the treatment due to the swelling. Expect it to shrink up to 15-20% depending on the swelling.
    - Strictly no make up including mascara on or around your eyes/lashes for 7 days.
    - You must not apply eyelash extensions until 4 weeks after your touch up session.
    - Contact lenses can be worn after 24 hours post procedure.
    - Clean the area with a cotton tip and filtered water, gently dab the area and then leave it to dry. Do this twice a day morning and night. We usually have our clients completely dry heal the eyeliner however, if you’re feeling very dry, you can apply a thin layer of antiseptic bepanthen.

  • There are various reasons people opt for eyebrow tattoo removal. For most people, the pigment may have faded or changed to a different colour, or the brows were the wrong shape, colour, or style initially.

    PREPARATION

    - Prepare your skin beforehand by avoiding the sun, makeup or tanning products, exfoliation, and certain medications (ibuprofen, aspirin etc) to prevent hyperpigmentation.
    - Avoid waxing, plucking, or using chemical peels/actives on the brows for at least 1 week before your laser appointment.
    - Laser tattoo removal breaks down ink/pigment molecules so your immune system can clear them naturally over time.
    - Eat something beforehand to balance out your blood sugar levels.

    AFTERCARE

The first 24–48 hours after your laser treatment are crucial for proper healing. Following these guidelines helps minimise complications, supports faster recovery, and ensures the best results from your sessions.

    - Keep the treated area clean and dry for at least 24 hours. Avoid swimming pools, baths, spas, and the ocean during this time.
    - If swelling occurs, apply a clean, wrapped cold compress. Never apply ice directly to the skin.
    - Allow any blisters, scabbing, or peeling skin to heal naturally. Picking or scratching can delay healing and increase the risk of scarring.
    - Protect the area from sun exposure for 1–2 weeks. Once healed, apply SPF 50+ before going outdoors.
    - Avoid scented lotions, essential oils, retinol, and glycolic acid on the treated area.
    - Use a petroleum jelly or antiseptic bepanthen as your aftercare product.
    - Support your body’s healing by staying hydrated, eating nutrient-rich foods, and getting adequate rest.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING HEALING AND POST PROCEDURE

Immediately after your treatment, it’s normal to notice redness, mild swelling, and a whitish appearance known as frosting — this shows the laser has effectively targeted the pigment. This includes temporarily turning your eyebrow hairs white.

In the days following your session, some blistering may develop, especially on newer or heavily saturated tattoos. This is a natural part of the healing process and nothing to worry about.

  • EXISTING TATTOOS

Do you have an existing tattoo by another artist?
Please send a clear photo of your brows (in natural lighting, using your back camera) so we can assess the existing colour and shape. From there, Tayla will get back to you with a response to see if she is able to improve on what you currently have.

In some cases, we recommend laser which helps break down the pigment particles in the skin resulting in a cleaner canvas to work over.
We aim for soft natural results, we do not want to compromise the skin by congesting it with too much pigment.

We invite you to book a consultation so Tayla can elaborate further on the topic of existing tattoos and why it may be classified as correctional work.

    PREGNANT

If you are pregnant, unfortunately we cannot tattoo you at this time.

    BREASTFEEDING

If you are breastfeeding, you can still have a procedure done however you are required to ‘pump & dump’ for 48 hours post-procedure - this is a safety measure.

    COLDSORES/PIMPLES/BLEMISHES

If there are any current cold sores, pimples, acne, moles, or blemishes in the area where the procedure is scheduled, please let your artist know immediately. Your appointment may need to be rescheduled for a later date once the skin has cleared or moles have been removed and fully healed.

    FACIALS/PEELS/LASER ETC

Should be avoided at a minimum of 4 weeks prior to your scheduled appointment. Where possible, if you can kindly ask the therapist to avoid the area to be tattooed completely.

    ALLERGIES

If you have allergies or sensitivities, please consult your cosmetic tattooist for additional guidance.

    SKIN CONDITIONS

If you have any concerning or underlining skin conditions, it is recommended to consult with a medical professional before undergoing a cosmetic tattoo treatment.

    INJECTABLES

For optimal results, please avoid botox/dysport and dermal fillers within a 2-3 week window before or after your scheduled tattoo appointment.

    ACTIVE PRODUCTS

Please avoid putting retinols, glycolic acid & vitamin C products on the area for at least 2 weeks prior to your appt as well as tints/dyes

    FACIAL SURGERY

Before proceeding with any treatment following recent facial surgery, it is necessary to obtain approval from a medical professional.

    DIABETES

Individuals with diabetes typically experience slower healing. If the condition is well-managed, those with diabetes can proceed with a cosmetic tattooing procedure, but they should be prepared for an extended healing period.

    ALCOHOL/CAFFEINE

Please do not consume any alcohol or caffeine at least 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment to avoid any excessive bleeding.

    MEDICATIONS

Warfarin, Heparin, Aspirin, Opioid medication (Endone), Prednisone, Roaccutane (within 8-12 months), Antibiotics - If you are taking any of these medications, please inform your cosmetic tattooist beforehand.

    SUNBURN

You must stay out of direct sunlight for two weeks minimum before and after your appointment. If there are any signs of sunburn, we can cancel the appointment and you will lose your deposit.

    SKIN CONDITIONS

Skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, keratosis pilaris, and dermatitis can cause constant shedding, making it difficult for pigment to hold well.

    CANCER

Clients undergoing chemotherapy or who have undergone chemotherapy within the last 12 months cannot be treated due to the potential effects of radiation on pigment settling.

    HAEMOPHILLIA

People with haemophilia or a heart condition are not recommended to undergo any form of permanent makeup, as it puts them at high risk.

  • - Firstly, we discuss your goals and inspirations for your cosmetic tattoo so I can gain an understanding on what result you are after.
    - During your consultation, I take the time to walk you through the science behind cosmetic tattooing, including how the pigment interacts with the skin and what you can expect in terms of longevity.
I see this as a collaborative process, ensuring you feel fully informed, confident, and aligned with your treatment, including understanding your expectations, future maintenance and refresh of colour appointments over the years.
    - I will then have you lay down so I can assess the area to be tattooed to ensure there are no visible skin concerns etc
    - Then we take photos of the area for insurance purposes and also marketing (if allowed by you).
I will then assess the symmetry of your face and your overall profile to envision the result.
    - We then discuss your skin type, amount of oil production you produce and how it can affect your lifestyle so we can pick what technique will ideally heal and age the best for you.
    - Then I will begin to map the area with measuring tools. I take your overall profile, asymmetries, bone structure and natural growth into consideration. So you can be rest assured that this is not a one size fits all approach. During this time, I ask that you keep conversation to a minimum so you can keep still whilst I get the shape on point
    - You have to love the result of the mapping/shape in order for me to proceed with tattooing. I want you feel completely confident before we move on to making it permanent. Please don’t be shy, I prefer you communicate so we can to get the result you’re after (with my professional opinion of course). Your input is essential. After all, you live with it, it’s on your face. I want you to feel comfortable to open up and question me and let me know whether something is not quite right. Your results are something you wear every day, so it’s important to me that I create something that you will love for years to come. Your satisfaction is my number one priority.
    - I draw the shape on with a black pencil (eyebrows and eyeliner) so the shape may appear quite bold and initially thick. Note: I work inside the shape and during the tattoo process you will lose a little bit of thickness as well as over the healing process it will shrink once the skin heals. So when I show you the mirror, imagine your brows or liner about 20% thinner. (With room to go thicker in your touch up session). Less is more initially.
    - After approval of the shape, we discuss colour and I will proceed to custom colour blend a pigment based on your overall skin tone and hair colour.
    - I will then ask if you are comfortable or if you have any questions before we proceed.
    - Moving on, I will start the tattoo process. Depending on what technique we decide upon, I pre-numb you before or during the procedure.
    - I go over the same areas in layers building up the colour saturation to ensure a soft even result once healed.
    - Clients generally bring headphones to zone out or listen to a podcast. However, most clients will have a nap.
    - A procedure can typically take 2-2.5 hours.
    - Just before I am about to finish up, I might sit you up to check the balance and symmetry and make a necessary changes in small details.
    - I tweek any little bits that need more detail, and then I finish cleaning the treated area.
    - I will then show you the result.
    - The finished result immediately after will appear quite dark and warm, potentially a little swollen, and a little too bold but rest assured over the healing process the colour will soften into a more neutral healed result and the thickness will shrink slightly

If you have any further questions, I’d love to hear from you!!

    DEPOSITS/REFUNDS

Upon booking an appointment, a deposit is required to secure the preferred time and day.

A refund is issued only if you are deemed not suitable to go ahead with treatment or refusal of treatment.

You are required to leave a booking deposit for all appointments including touch-up appointments as well as all styling appointments.

    CANCELLATIONS/RESCHEDULING

Cancellation or rescheduling is not permitted within 48 hours of your booking, resulting in the forfeiture of your deposit.

Your card details are securely stored, and non-compliance with our policies will lead to the deduction of your deposit from your card.

Automatic charges for these fees will be applied if you cancel, reschedule, or no-show for your appointment within the 48-hour window via the timely booking system.

    NO SHOWS

We take no shows very seriously. No-shows WILL BE CHARGED 100% of the whole service fee for styling appointments and an amount $100 will be automatically charged as well as loss of your deposit.

The credit card that you used to make the booking will be charged by the home of brows.

    Thank you for understanding.

Should you desire to reschedule and attend a different treatment date and time with Tayla, please proceed to rebook online and complete another booking deposit.

    LATE ARRIVALS

If your arrival is 10 minutes or more past the scheduled time, your appointment will be canceled, and your deposit will be forfeited. Notification regarding this will be sent to you via email. To rebook, you must do so online or via phone and provide a new deposit.

Late arrivals disrupt the day's schedule and can cause stress for your artist. We appreciate your effort to arrive earlier or on time. Please consider potential travel factors such as traffic, weather changes, parking, or public transport availability.

    AFTER-HOURS APPOINTMENTS - PER REQUEST

In our commitment to meeting our clients' needs and delivering outstanding service, we have instituted an After-Hours appointment policy. This policy is designed to accommodate clients who prefer appointments beyond our regular business hours and outlines the conditions and associated fees for such appointments, ensuring continued exceptional service while respecting clients' preferences.

This policy is applicable to all clients seeking appointments after 6:00 pm. While availability may be limited, feel free to reach out to us for more options.

Clients opting for after-hours appointments will incur an additional fee of $10 per appointment. This fee compensates the artist for their extended availability, ensuring accessibility to our services for all clients. The after-hours fee is expected to be paid at the time of your appointment.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with this policy as we strive to maintain the quality of our service for your satisfaction.
